Q: What is a Korean eSIM? How is it different from the data SIM card I used when traveling to Korea before?
A: eSIM is the latest technology for internet access, which uses a virtual SIM card inside your phone to connect to the internet. With eSIM, you don't need to swap SIM cards; simply scan a QR CODE to add the eSIM to your phone. Once in Korea, your phone will automatically detect the telecom provider's signal according to the plan you’ve chosen and connect to the internet. It's very convenient and has no geographic or time limitations, so you can order and activate it anytime. Currently, eSIM mainly supports Apple and Google phones. If you're not using one of these devices, you can consider using a physical SIM card. The SIM card is a 3-in-1 size, compatible with all phones, and offers the same network services as eSIM. It is also a highly recommended option for internet access during your trip to Korea.
Q: I use an iPhone, but I’ve always used a SIM card before. I’m a bit worried about using eSIM...
A: Don’t worry! In fact, using eSIM is much simpler than using a physical SIM card. There’s no need to remove your phone case, find a SIM ejector, or swap SIM cards. Just follow the step-by-step guide above, and in under three minutes, you’ll have installed the eSIM, linked the Korean data plan to your phone, and be ready to use the internet when you arrive in Korea. If your phone supports eSIM, we strongly recommend using it, as the success rate is nearly 100%.
Q: What should I do if I can’t connect to the internet when I’m in Korea?
A: If you have followed the Korean eSIM installation guide above, you should definitely be able to connect to the internet. We haven’t received any reports from customers experiencing issues with internet connectivity in Korea. In the few cases reported, it was because the "Data Roaming" function had not been enabled. Once this is activated, the internet should work immediately in Korea!
Q: Can I use it in Jeju Island?
A: Our eSIM plan uses the network of SK Telecom, the largest telecom provider in Korea, which is the same network used by locals. Therefore, this eSIM plan covers the entire country, including all islands. The network service on Jeju Island will be stable and fast.
Q: I see there are 1GB, 2GB, and 3GB options. How do I choose the best one?
A: The 1GB, 2GB, and 3GB refer to the amount of data you can use. Once you reach the data limit, the speed will decrease. However, after the speed reduction, you can still use basic functions like text messaging. At 00:10 (Korean time), the eSIM will reset, recalculating the data allowance and restoring high-speed internet. If you don't engage in high-data activities, such as watching videos, 1GB should be enough. If you occasionally watch videos or need to use the internet for extended periods, you may want to consider 2GB or 3GB. Of course, if you're concerned about speed reduction, we recommend choosing an unlimited plan for smoother use.
Q: When is the best time to install the eSIM after I’ve placed the order?
A: Installation requires an internet connection, so please install it while you're still in your home country. If it shows as "activating" or "activation failed" after installation, that’s normal. Once you arrive in Korea, remember to switch your mobile data to OKSIM and enable the data roaming function. The eSIM will automatically activate.
Q: Have you heard of any cases where installation failed?
A: If you have previously installed an eSIM on your phone, when you scan the new QR CODE, you might encounter an error saying "eSIM already exists" and you can’t proceed. If this happens, go to your previous eSIM settings, select the old plan, and remove it by tapping the "remove" button at the bottom of the screen. After that, you can scan the new QR CODE. If you still encounter issues, you can reset your network settings by going to: Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Q: I have a flight tomorrow morning. How soon can I get the QR CODE?
A: No problem! After placing the order, the system will immediately send your eSIM details. Please check your email or spam folder in about 5 minutes.
Q: How do I remove the Korean eSIM network plan from my phone?
A: After your trip to Korea, how do you remove the eSIM from your phone? It’s very simple. Just go to OKSIM, scroll to the bottom of the screen, and you will see an option to remove the network plan. Click it, and the eSIM will be removed. While this step is not mandatory, it may affect the installation of your next eSIM. Therefore, we recommend removing it when you have the chance, as this will make it easier and faster to install a new eSIM when traveling abroad next time.
