Q: What is the China eSIM plan? Can I use it?
A: This is the latest virtual SIM card, also known as embedded-SIM (eSIM). eSIM doesn’t require a physical SIM card to be inserted. Simply scan the mobile barcode (QR CODE) to enable internet access. Currently, this is mainly supported on iPhone models, with some Android phones like Google's Pixel, Samsung Z Flip, etc. Please refer to the list above. If your phone is on the list and not purchased from China, Hong Kong, Macau, you can use the eSIM. If your phone is not listed, we recommend using a physical SIM card, which is a 3-in-1 size and compatible with all phones.
Q: I want to try eSIM but I’m worried it may have issues...
A: Don’t worry, the success rate for eSIM is actually higher than physical SIM cards, with almost a 100% success rate. Your phone already has a virtual SIM card device (virtual SIM) embedded on the motherboard from the factory. By scanning the QR CODE, the China mobile network plan is added to your virtual SIM (eSIM). When you arrive in China, Hongkong or Macau your phone will automatically detect and connect to the local telecom network. Compared to installing or changing a physical SIM card, it is more convenient, faster, and easier. As long as you follow our eSIM installation tutorial, your phone will definitely be able to connect to the internet. We highly recommend this China eSIM plan for users who want to try it.
Q: Will your China eSIM plans be restricted by the Great Firewall?
A: No. Whether it’s eSIM or other China phone card/SIM card plans, none of our products are restricted by the firewall. You don’t need to set anything extra or use VPN software. You can access all apps and websites, such as Facebook, Instagram, Google, Gmail, LINE, WhatsApp, etc., directly without any issues.
Q: What regions does the China eSIM cover?
A: This China eSIM covers all provinces in China, include Hong Kong and Macau.
Q: How do I choose the China eSIM plan?
A: This China unlimited data plan is available for both eSIM and physical SIM cards. This plan offers a fixed amount of data each day. After reaching the daily data limit, the speed will be reduced. Even after throttling, you can continue using basic features like text messaging. After midnight, the eSIM (SIM card) data will reset, and a new cycle will begin. You can choose from 1GB, 2GB, or 3GB plans based on your usage habits. Alternatively, you can choose an unlimited plan with no throttling for a smoother and more reliable internet experience.
Q: Is there a China eSIM or SIM card plan with no speed throttling?
A: Yes, we offer a no-throttling plan, available for both physical SIM cards and virtual eSIMs. Please feel free to check it out.
Q: What should I do if the eSIM doesn’t work when I arrive in China?
A: Don’t worry. We haven’t encountered any issues with no connectivity. Most users who report no connection simply forgot to turn on data roaming. Once roaming is enabled, the phone’s virtual SIM will automatically detect and connect to the high-speed network in China. There’s also a rare case where the phone doesn’t automatically connect to the right telecom provider. If roaming is already enabled but there’s still no internet, try manually selecting "China Unicom" in the network settings, then wait for 5-10 minutes for the phone to connect to the local network.
Q: Can there be installation issues with the eSIM? For example, errors during QR CODE scanning or inability to install?
A: If you receive an error message like "Unable to install" or "Mobile plan already exists" when scanning the QR CODE, it means you already have another eSIM or virtual network card installed. In this case, go to the eSIM settings and remove the existing plans. After removing it, you can scan the new QR CODE for the China Hong Kong Macau eSIM. If you still have issues scanning, you might need to reset your network settings (Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings).
Q: What is the validity period of the China eSIM?
A: Once the eSIM order is confirmed, the system will send your information to the telecom’s virtual SIM production center to generate the QR CODE. The QR CODE will expire 30 days after issuance. You must scan the QR CODE within 30 days to add the eSIM to your phone, or it will become invalid.
Q: When should I install the eSIM?
A: You need internet access to install the eSIM, so please complete the installation in advance to avoid any network issues when you arrive in China. Don’t worry, installing the eSIM early will not activate the plan. The plan will only activate when your phone receives the first roaming signal from China, and the plan will reset at midnight each day.
Q: I am about to leave for China, how soon will I receive the QR CODE after placing the order?
A: No problem! Once you place your order, the system will immediately send the eSIM information. Please check your email or junk mail after about 5 minutes. If you haven’t received it, you can also find the order details in your account.
China, Hong Kong, Macau eSIM Tutorial - How to Remove eSIM (Example for iPhone)
Since eSIM is most commonly used on iPhones, here’s how to remove the eSIM on an iPhone. Go to the eSIM plan you wish to remove (in this case, the OKSIM China eSIM), scroll to the bottom of the page, and select "Remove Cellular Plan." The phone will automatically remove this internet access method. Keep in mind that some eSIMs cannot exist on the phone simultaneously. For example, if you don’t remove your current China eSIM, you may encounter errors when scanning another China eSIM QR CODE next time. If you face any errors, simply remove the expired eSIM or cellular plan and reset the network settings before adding the new eSIM.
